Wheel Balancing
Wheel Balancing in Leamington Spa | Road Buddy Tyre Shop
Wheel balancing is carried out in person at our tyre shop, 13 Bath Place, Leamington Spa, CV31 3AQ, using proper balancing equipment. It is not something we do at the roadside or from a van.

- Carried out at 13 Bath Place, Leamington Spa, CV31 3AQ
- Corrects vibration from new tyres, repairs, or kerbed wheels
- Alloy-safe weights fitted as standard
An in-shop service, not a mobile one
Wheel balancing needs a static balancing machine to spin the wheel and measure exactly where weight needs to be added, so it is not something that can be done accurately at the roadside or from a van. This is why balancing is carried out at our tyre shop, 13 Bath Place, Leamington Spa, CV31 3AQ, rather than as part of a mobile visit.
If you have had mobile tyre fitting elsewhere and are still feeling vibration, or a new tyre has just been fitted mobile and needs balancing confirmed, bring the vehicle to the shop and we will check it properly on the machine.
Signs your wheels need balancing
An unbalanced wheel usually announces itself through vibration that changes with speed, rather than being constant at all times.
- Steering wheel shaking, typically most noticeable between 50 and 70mph
- Vibration felt through the seat or floor rather than the steering
- A tyre wearing unevenly in patches rather than smoothly across the tread
- A balance weight visibly missing or hanging loose on the rim, often after hitting a pothole
When balancing is needed
Balancing is not a one-off job done once and forgotten. It is usually needed whenever something changes at the wheel itself.
- After fitting a new tyre
- After a puncture repair that has involved removing the tyre from the rim
- After kerbing a wheel, which can dislodge or damage existing weights
- If a weight has come away or the wheel has picked up new vibration without an obvious cause
Balancing, alignment and a buckled rim are not the same thing
These three issues are often confused because they can all cause a rough or uneven ride, but they are different problems with different fixes.
| Issue | What it affects | Typical symptom |
|---|---|---|
| Wheel balancing | Weight distribution around the wheel and tyre | Vibration that appears or worsens at a specific speed |
| Wheel alignment | The angle of the wheels relative to each other and the road | Vehicle pulling to one side, uneven edge wear |
| Buckled rim | Physical shape of the wheel itself | A pulse or thump that does not improve after balancing |
What happens during a balancing appointment
The wheel and tyre are removed from the vehicle and mounted on a balancing machine, which spins the assembly and identifies exactly where it is heavier than the opposite side. Small weights are then fitted at the correct points to bring the whole assembly into balance, and the wheel is spun again to confirm the fix before it goes back on the car.
How long it takes
A single wheel balance is usually a short job once the vehicle is in front of us, though timing can vary slightly depending on how busy the shop is and whether all four wheels need checking rather than just one. We will give you a realistic idea of the wait when you arrive or book in.
Alloy-safe weights
We fit weights suited to alloy wheels as standard, avoiding the older style of clip-on weights that can mark a soft alloy rim. This keeps the finish of the wheel intact while still getting an accurate balance.
