When a tyre problem becomes an emergency

Some tyre damage means you simply cannot drive on safely: a full blowout, a tyre that's shredded off the rim, a sidewall split, or a wheel that's gone completely flat with no usable spare in the boot. In any of these situations, stop the car in the safest available spot and call us rather than trying to limp it any further.

No spare wheel? You're not alone

Many newer cars are sold with a space-saver spare, a tyre sealant kit, or nothing at all. If you don't have a usable spare, or you're not confident fitting one yourself, we bring the correct replacement tyre to you and fit it there and then, so you don't need to worry about finding a garage on a space-saver.

Space-saver spare limits

If you have fitted a space-saver, remember it's a temporary measure only. Most are limited to around 50mph and shouldn't be driven long distances. Get to us, or have us come to you, to fit a proper tyre as soon as it's practical rather than continuing on the space-saver longer than necessary.

If you're on a motorway or dual carriageway

Your safety comes before the car. If you can, get the vehicle onto the hard shoulder or a slip road, put your hazard lights on, and if it's safe to do so get out of the car and stand behind the barrier, well away from moving traffic, while you wait for us or call for help.

If you're in a live lane, can't move the car, or feel in any danger, call 999 first. Once you and anyone with you are safe, call Road Buddy and we'll come and sort the tyre.

What to tell us on the phone

The more of this we have upfront, the faster we can get the right tyre loaded and on the way to you.

  • Your exact location — postcode, motorway and junction, or what3words if you have it
  • Which tyre is affected and what happened, if you know
  • Whether you're safely off the road or still in a live lane
  • Your car's make, model and registration
  • Whether you have a spare or run flat tyres fitted

Out-of-hours and overnight callouts

We don't restrict emergency tyre replacement to daytime hours. Late-night, early-morning and weekend callouts are handled the same way as a Tuesday afternoon, with the same average response time of approximately 30–45 minutes depending on where you are in Warwickshire.

What happens when we arrive

Our fitter checks the damaged tyre, confirms the correct replacement, and fits it at the roadside using van-carried stock or a tyre sourced and brought out for less common sizes. Pricing is agreed and confirmed with you clearly before any work starts.

Why replacement rather than repair

A blowout or a shredded tyre is not something that can be patched — the structure of the tyre is compromised, and running it again risks a second failure. In these cases replacement is the only safe option, which is why we carry stock tyres on the vans rather than repair kits alone.
