M40 Mobile Tyre Fitting & Breakdown Recovery

Stuck on the M40 between Bicester and the M42? Road Buddy is based in Leamington Spa, a few minutes from the M40 at Warwick, and covers tyres, recovery and jump starts along the Warwickshire and north Oxfordshire stretch.

If you are stopped in a live lane or in immediate danger, call 999 first.

Motorway attendance and any roadside work depend on safe access and your exact location. We will not fit tyres or work beside live traffic — the vehicle may need to be recovered to a suitable safe location before work can be completed.

The M40 is the motorway closest to our Leamington Spa base at 13 Bath Place, so it is the stretch most of our motorway enquiries relate to. It runs north-west from Bicester through Banbury and Gaydon, past Warwick and Leamington Spa, and joins the M42 south of Solihull.

This page covers every roadside service we genuinely offer on that stretch — mobile tyre fitting, emergency tyre replacement, puncture repair, breakdown recovery, car, van and motorbike recovery, roadside assistance and jump starts — with the junction and service area details you need to tell us where you are.

M40 Mobile Tyre Fitting

If a tyre goes down on the M40, mobile tyre fitting means we bring a replacement tyre to you and fit it where it is safe to do so — typically after you have left the motorway at a junction, pulled into Warwick Services or Cherwell Valley Services, or been moved somewhere safe. We fit tyres on car and small van wheels using our van-mounted equipment.

Tyre stock depends on your size, so send a photo of the tyre sidewall (for example 205/55 R16 91V) when you message us. That lets us confirm what we can bring before we set off rather than after we arrive.

Mobile tyre fitter near M40 J13, J14 and J15

Junctions 13 to 15 sit on the edge of Leamington Spa and Warwick, the area closest to our base. Note that J13 (Bishop's Tachbrook) and J14 (A452) are limited-access junctions, so tell us which direction you are travelling and which slip road you are on — it changes how we reach you. J15 Longbridge is the full interchange with the A46 and A429.

Flat tyre or blowout near Banbury and Gaydon

Between J11 Banbury and J12 Gaydon the motorway is long and fairly exposed with few places to stop. If you have a blowout here, get to the hard shoulder or an emergency area if you can, get behind the barrier and call. Do not try to change a wheel next to live traffic.

M40 Breakdown Recovery

Breakdown recovery on the M40 means we load your vehicle and take it off the motorway — to your home, a garage of your choice or a safe location where repairs can be carried out. Recovery is the right answer when the vehicle cannot be made safe and driveable where it stopped.

Most of our M40 recovery trips head towards Leamington Spa, Warwick, Banbury or Bicester, but you choose the drop-off point and we quote for the distance before we set off.

Recovery near Warwick Services (J12–J13)

Warwick Services sits between J12 and J13 with separate northbound and southbound sites that are not linked by a footbridge. Tell us which side you are on — it makes a real difference to the route we take.

M40 Car Recovery & Vehicle Recovery

Car recovery covers cars that will not start, have lost drive, have tyre or wheel damage that cannot be fixed at the roadside, or have been in a minor collision and are not safe to drive. Vehicle recovery covers the same for small vans and other light vehicles within our recovery truck's limits.

We do not recover HGVs. If you are unsure whether your vehicle is suitable, send the registration and we will tell you straight away.

M40 Emergency Tyre Replacement

Emergency tyre replacement is for when the tyre cannot be repaired — sidewall damage, a blowout, a tyre driven flat for some distance or a puncture too close to the shoulder. On the M40 we can bring a replacement tyre to a safe stopping point, or recover the car off the motorway first if it is not safe to work where you are.

If your car has no spare and a locking wheel nut, tell us. We also offer locking wheel nut removal if the key is missing.

M40 Roadside Assistance

Roadside assistance on the M40 covers the common problems that can be sorted without towing: a flat battery that needs a jump start, a damaged tyre that needs replacing, or a puncture that can be repaired. If the fault cannot be fixed at the roadside, we can recover the vehicle.

We do not offer diagnostics, fuel delivery or wrong fuel work. If that is what you need, we will tell you honestly rather than send a van that cannot help.

M40 Jump Start & Flat Battery Help

Flat batteries on the M40 are often discovered after a stop — at Warwick Services, Cherwell Valley Services or a lay-by off a junction. We bring a professional jump pack and can get most cars and small vans started so you can carry on.

If the battery will not hold a charge afterwards, we can supply and fit a replacement battery from our stocked brands where we have the right one for your vehicle.

M40 Van Recovery

Van recovery on the M40 covers small and medium vans that have broken down, lost a wheel or tyre, or will not start. Many vans use the M40 as the link between the Midlands and the Oxford/London side, so send us the registration and the approximate load so we can confirm the van is within our recovery limits.

Van recovery

M40 Motorbike Recovery

Motorbike recovery on the M40 uses proper motorcycle restraints so the bike is loaded and secured upright. If you have a puncture or a bike that will not start, tell us the make and model and where you are; we will move the bike to your home, a dealer or a workshop.

M40 Breakdown Recovery Cost & Quotes

We do not publish fixed M40 recovery or tyre prices because the cost depends on where you are, the vehicle, the tyre size and where it needs to go. Instead, we give you a clear quote over the phone or WhatsApp before we set off, so you know the price before you agree to anything.

To get the quickest, most accurate quote, send your junction, direction of travel, vehicle registration, what has happened and — for tyres — a photo of the tyre size.

What to Do If You Break Down on the M40

  1. If you are in a live lane or in immediate danger, put your hazard lights on and call 999.
  2. If you can, leave at the next junction, or move to the hard shoulder, an emergency area or a service area.
  3. Get everyone out on the side away from traffic and wait behind the barrier where it is safe.
  4. Note the last junction, your direction of travel and the nearest marker post.
  5. Call or WhatsApp Road Buddy with the details below.

On the M40 between J12 and J15 the motorway has hard shoulders. If you can, leave at the next junction or pull into Warwick Services rather than stopping on the hard shoulder.

What to send us

  • Which motorway — the M40
  • Nearest junction number or service station
  • Direction of travel (e.g. northbound / southbound)
  • A WhatsApp live location pin if you can
  • Your vehicle registration
  • What has gone wrong
