Already got a battery? We'll fit it properly

A lot of the calls we get are from drivers who've bought a battery online, been sent the wrong one and swapped it, or picked one up from a parts counter and then realised fitting it themselves isn't as simple as it looks. That's fine — we're happy to fit a battery you've already sourced, as long as it's the correct specification for your vehicle.

Fitting a battery sounds like a two-minute job with a spanner, but modern cars complicate it. Getting the sequence wrong, letting the wrong terminal touch bodywork, or ignoring what the car's electronics expect afterwards can cause anything from a blown fuse to a fault light that won't clear without specialist reset work.

Terminal order, corrosion and secure fitting

Disconnecting and reconnecting a battery has a correct order for a reason — earth first off, earth last on — and getting it backwards risks a short across a spanner or tool. We follow that sequence every time, and we check the terminals themselves before reconnecting anything.

Corroded or loose terminals are one of the most common causes of intermittent electrical faults, and they're easy to miss when you're focused on getting the new battery in. We clean corrosion from the terminals and posts, make sure the connections are tight, and confirm the battery is properly secured in its tray or clamp — a battery that can move about under braking or on rough roads will eventually damage its own terminals or case.

  • Terminals cleaned of corrosion before reconnection
  • Correct disconnect/reconnect sequence followed
  • Clamp or hold-down properly tightened, not just resting in place
  • Old battery removed for us to take away if required

Memory-saver use where it matters

Disconnecting a battery on some vehicles resets the radio, clock and stored settings, and on a smaller number of cars can affect adaptive throttle or steering settings that then need re-learning. Where it's appropriate, we use a memory-saver device to keep a small trickle of power flowing to the vehicle's electronics while the battery is swapped, so you're not left resetting presets or codes afterwards.

It isn't needed on every car, and we'll tell you honestly if your vehicle doesn't require it rather than adding a step for the sake of it.

BMS registration and battery coding

Many newer cars, particularly those with stop-start and smart charging, monitor the battery through a Battery Management System (BMS) and need the new battery's details registered so the car's charging strategy resets correctly. Skip this step on a vehicle that requires it and the car can keep treating a healthy new battery as though it's old and degraded, which shortens its working life.

We carry the equipment needed to register or code a battery on the makes and models where it applies, as part of the fitting job rather than as a separate visit.

Batteries under seats, in boots and behind wheel arches

Not every battery lives under the bonnet any more. Plenty of German and French models tuck the battery under a seat, in a boot side panel, or behind a wheel arch liner, and getting to it means removing trim panels or covers rather than just lifting a bonnet.

Our fitters are used to working through these locations without damaging clips, trim or carpet, and carry the right panel tools to do it properly rather than forcing anything.

What we need to know before we arrive

If you've already got a battery for us to fit, tell us the make, model, engine size and year of your vehicle so we can confirm it's the right specification, and let us know if the vehicle has stop-start or if you've noticed any warning lights so we can plan the visit properly. If you're not sure of the exact battery fitted, a photo of the label on the current battery is usually enough for us to check compatibility over the phone.

Fitted where you are, when you need it

We work across Leamington Spa, Warwick, Kenilworth, Coventry, Rugby, Stratford-upon-Avon, Nuneaton, Bedworth and Southam, fitting batteries at homes, offices and roadside locations. We typically aim to reach customers within about 30–45 minutes on average, though that will depend on where you are and how busy the day is.
